About Upper Arlington

The City of Upper Arlington, home of the Golden Bears, is conveniently located in Northwest Columbus just minutes away from downtown Columbus and the Port Columbus International Airport. Upper Arlington is a unique community with a rich history and a long-standing tradition of community involvement that is reflected in its outstanding school system and winning athletics program.

Nearly 10 square miles in size, Upper Arlington is primarily a residential community incorporated in 1918 and offering a variety of housing options from historically significant homes to affordable apartments and condominiums, all nestled within luscious tree-lined streets with charming street lights, sidewalks and bike paths. Upper Arlington also boasts outstanding community parks located throughout the city, and offering interesting play areas for children, shelter houses, bike paths, tennis courts and softball fields. The City also offers three public swimming pools, a fitness trail, as well as a full range of recreational programs for residents of all ages!

Upper Arlington is located across the Olentangy River from The Ohio State University and is one the oldest and most prestigious suburbs of Columbus. Upper Arlington became a city in 1941 and in 1985 the historic district was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is home to the Scioto Country Club and The Ohio State Scarlet and Gray golf courses. It is home to professors, medical specialists (because of its extremely close proximity to hospitals, clinics, and The Ohio State University), attorneys, bankers, and business owners (because of its 10 minute drive to downtown). It is family oriented with one of the best public school systems in central Ohio with 95% of its high school graduates pursuing higher education. There are several public swimming pools, 180 acres of parks (dogs are allowed) and tennis courts. Upper Arlington has its own police and fire departments. The city government consists of a city manger and a seven-member council.

Upper Arlington is also home of The Ohio State University Golf Course, a public course and Scioto Country Club, a private course where UA Alum Jack Nicklaus started his golf game!
